Growing up in Bedford, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston, Cotter Ellis was immersed in music from an early age. Raised by a professional musician father who played with iconic acts like Brad Delp of Boston, Cotter Ellis was drawn to the sounds of Motown, soul, and R&B. His own musical journey began with piano and saxophone before he transitioned to drums at the age of 10, initially inspired by a crush and quickly falling in love with the instrument. Over the years, Cotter honed his craft in various bands, from pop-punk to jam band Swimmer, where he and his bandmates developed a reputation for their eclectic sound, improvisational skills, and "edge" that set them apart in the jam scene.

In 2018, Cotter crossed paths with Goose, a band that was quickly making a name for itself. After a powerful jam session and mutual respect for one another’s music, Cotter joined Goose, adding his unique energy and creativity to their live performances. His deep dive into Goose’s catalog, coupled with the band's open, collaborative spirit, has helped shape the group’s evolving sound, blending dynamic improvisation with emotional depth.

Now, as part of Goose,Cotter Ellis continues to push the boundaries of live performance, balancing structured songs with expansive jams. His passion for music, honed over years of performing, listening, and jamming with some of the most innovative musicians, has solidified him as a key part of the band’s exciting new chapter. Whether onstage or in the studio, Cotter Ellis brings a sense of fun, authenticity, and creative energy that resonates with both the band and their growing fanbase.
